Eco-Cities After-School Program Volunteer

Position Description

Pinecone Project is seeking two volunteers to help with our Eco-Cities after-school program this winter. Volunteers will help with the operations of program activities, encourage positive learning experiences among participants, and assist both students and program facilitators where needed. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to learn new teaching and facilitation techniques,  participate in design challenges, and bring a bit of themselves to the camp experience!

Responsibilities include:

  • Setting up and cleaning up program room and materials
  • Helping to create a collaborative, inclusive, fun, positive learning environment for all participants
  • Helping to ensure safety of all participants during activities, breaks, and community trips
  • Leading games and small activities throughout the program

Volunteers should have:

  • A sense of enthusiasm for the activities and day ahead
  • Ability to work patiently with both children and adults
  • Enjoyment for learning, including learning from mistakes
  • An interest in design thinking, multi-disciplinary learning, and problem solving
  • Conflict resolution skills are an asset
  • Experience working with students in grades 3-8 is an asset  

Volunteers must be available every Wednesday from 4:15 - 6:45 pm from January 29 - March 4, plus an additional afternoon for training in early January. The program will be located  at Dragon Academy, which is about a 2 minute walk from St. George subway station.

Applicants in high school are welcome to apply. Your time spent volunteering with Pinecone Project can be counted towards your OSSD Community Service requirements.
