Designing A Better World Camp Volunteer

Position Description

This summer Pinecone Project will be collaborating with Dragon Academy to offer hands-on programming to students in grades 3-8 for one week at the end of the summer. We're looking for 2 volunteers to help with the operations of camp, encourage positive learning experiences among campers, and to assist campers and camp facilitators where needed. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to learn new teaching and facilitation techniques,  participate in design challenges, and bring a bit of themselves to the camp experience!

Responsibilities include:

  • Setting up and cleaning up camp room and materials
  • Help to create a collaborative, inclusive, fun, positive learning environment for all campers
  • Help to ensure safety of all campers during activities and breaks
  • Lead games and small activities throughout the week

Volunteers should have:

  • A sense of enthusiasm for the camp day ahead
  • Ability to work patiently with both children and adults
  • Enjoyment for learning, including learning from mistakes
  • An interest in design thinking, multi-disciplinary learning, and problem solving
  • Conflict resolution skills are an asset
  • Experience working with students in grades 3-8 is an asset

Volunteers must be available during the day August 19-23, plus 1 additional day in August for training.  

Applicants in high school are welcome to apply. Your time spent working with Pinecone Project this summer can be counted towards your OSSD Community Service requirements.
